Will Israel’s First King Follow the Seed of the Woman or the Seed of the Serpent?

Help students dig deeper into the story of King Saul with this engaging, Scripture-based group investigation! Rather than simply learning that Saul “disobeyed God,” students examine several key moments from his life in 1 Samuel and piece together a bigger picture of his character and leadership. Working in groups, students investigate Saul’s heart, mouth, eyes, ears, and helmet, summarize their assigned passage, and use evidence from Scripture to determine whether Saul’s actions reflect the seed of the woman or the seed of the serpent.

This activity is designed to get students reading, discussing, making connections, and thinking critically about Scripture. As each group presents its findings, students begin to recognize the repeated patterns in Saul’s choices and connect his story back to Genesis 3:15 and the Bible’s larger story of the conflict between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. With student pages, discussion questions, group activities, and teacher guidance, this resource gives you a meaningful, ready-to-use way to teach Saul while helping students see how individual Bible stories fit into the larger story of Scripture.
