Unlock an engaging journey through ancient history with the Noah's Flood and Worldwide Flood Legends activity! Specially designed for middle and high school students, this comprehensive printable resource brings the fascinating story of Noah's Flood to life while drawing captivating comparisons to global flood legends. The curriculum features reading passages, historical images, thought-provoking worksheets, and interactive activities that spark critical thinking and lively classroom discussions.

God told Noah to build an ark because he was going to destroy the wickedness and evil of the world with a massive, global flood. Obeying God's commands, Noah built the ark and brought on board all kinds of animals and his family. When they came off the ark, they began to repopulate the earth. As these groups spread out, they formed into new cultures.

Today, we study these cultures and find many differences. However, one thing that is very similar among most native cultures is the legend of a massive flood that wiped out the people on earth, sparing only a few. Many of these legends are very similar to Noah's account in Genesis. With this activity, students will read about many of these legends and compare them to the account in Genesis.

There are two parts to this activity:

The first part involves the students reading the account from Genesis 6-8 and answering 15 questions about what they read. For example, "Read Genesis 6 and answer the question "Describe what the human race was like during the time of Noah." and "Describe the vessel that God told Noah to build."

In the second part of this activity, students will use the provided chart in their packets. It lists fifteen different flood legends, along with seven checkmark questions for each legend and a map. Students will go around the classroom and read about each of these Flood Legends from the provided sheets of paper. They will answer the questions in the chart in their packets and then they will write on the provided map in their packets from where each legend came from.

For example, students will read about how the Epic of Gilgamesh included a watery flood, caused by their gods. A man was told to build a large boat and bring all living beings into the boat to survive the flood. On the last day, the boat landed on a mountain and he sent a dove out but it came back. Then, he sent a swallow with the same result. Finally, he sent out a raven, which did not come back. He exited the boat and sacrifice to the gods. They were the only survivors.

This story is very similar to the account in Genesis, so students will use the comparison chart to decide just how similar it is. They will also read that this story came from Mesopotamia, so they will mark the location on the maps in their packets.

At the end, they will see that there are legends from all over the globe that have many similarities to Noah's flood. There are also optional discussion questions that you may work through as a class when they finish with the legends.
