Rocks And Minerals Escape Room Review

For Middle and High School

$5.00$3.50

Transform your classroom into an exciting adventure with the Rocks and Minerals Escape Room! Perfect for middle and high school students, this engaging activity challenges learners to solve puzzles and decipher clues while deepening their understanding as they review topics related to rocks and minerals. Featuring interactive tasks focused on essential vocabulary such as luster, hardness, streak, and crystals, this escape room is an ideal tool for reinforcing key scientific concepts. Enhance your science lessons with hands-on learning that sparks curiosity and teamwork.

As you are wrapping up your rocks and minerals unit, it's a good idea to have an activity for students to practice what they learned to help them review.

This activity was created for middle school and high school to help students review concepts already learned about rocks and minerals. It usually works best to do it in one period/class so that there is not much confusion for each group on where they ended the previous day (this can get confusing, especially for you!).

An example of a clue is:

Answer each question True or False:

  1. Three properties of minerals are: color, streak and hardness.

  2. Quartz is NOT a mineral.

  3. Scientists use the Mohs hardness scale to measure a mineral’s color.

...

Now, write the corresponding symbols based on the answers you got and use Morse Code to figure out where your next location is!

True ▬        False ⚫

There is a decent amount of set-up for this activity, but the kids really enjoy it! I made this activity for four groups (could also be done with less groups).

To do this activity, you will need:

  • An analog clock on the wall

  • A door

  • A window (or could be something made from glass like an aquarium)

  • A flag

  • Scrap paper or material (for covering certain parts of the clock)

  • Copies of clues and clue pages for each group (INCLUDED)

  • Tape

  • Optional: 4 Folders/cases to hold clues and information for each group

  • Optional: Student Textbooks/Notes for students to reference throughout the activity

This activity includes:

  1. Instructions for activity (how to set up, group routes, game play, script etc.)

  2. Clues

  3. Answers to clues and final codewords for each group

  4. Group routes

  5. Teacher tips and ideas

  6. Hint pages (Morse code, etc.) (for students to use)

It can take some work to get everything set up, so make sure you give yourself some time to get everything in place. My students LOVE games and escape rooms, so I hope you enjoy it too!
