$3.00$2.50
Discover the fascinating Kings Canyon National Park with our rain shadow activity perfectly illustrating this unique meteorological phenomenon. This educational packet includes detailed materials on the rain shadow effect and is ideal for classroom or homeschool students, educators, or any curious mind.
The rain shadow effect is a phenomenon that explains why we see lush, cool, green landscapes on the windward side of a mountain range and hot, dry, barren landscapes on the leeward side. This activity is designed to teach students about the rain shadow effect while practicing map skills and geography.
A great way to explain the rain shadow effect is by comparing Kings Canyon National Park and Death Valley National Park. They are less than 100 miles, yet their climates, landscapes and plant and animal life are totally different.
In this activity, students will read about these areas, and they will color in the areas on the windward and leeward sides of a map in their packet. They will also label major locations, the compass rose, 'windward,' 'leeward,' wind direction and more. After they complete their maps, they will answer six analysis questions about what they learned.
