Water Molecules Project Activity

For Middle and High School

$3.50$2.50

Ignite curiosity and enhance learning with our comprehensive Water Molecules Project activity! The completed project helps students easily distinguish atom types and understand the structure of H₂O. Engage students as they discover molecular arrangements and witness state changes into solid, liquid and gas up close. Make science unforgettable with this interactive, educational activity!

Water is typically a good example to use in the classroom to teach many different topics such as density, molecules, mass, polarity, etc. In this activity, students will learn what an atom looks like, then what a water molecule looks like. They will also learn about how molecules are arranged in different states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. Finally they will create a small project, using 3D materials to show the three atoms in a water molecule (two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom) and how they are arranged in the three different states of matter.

You can have the students work on these projects at home, but you can also have them bring in their materials and work on them in class as well.

This activity is "virtual friendly" as the students can fill in the packets at home and make their projects there. Then, they can send you a picture of what they made.

This product includes:

  1. Teacher directions: prep and materials needed

  2. Teacher procedure

  3. Teacher tips

  4. Answers to Student packet

  5. Example picture of completed student project

  6. Student "Water Project" packet

  7. Student Creative Project rubric

To do this activity, students will need:

  • Pencil

  • Copy of “Water Project” packet (INCLUDED) for each student

  • Glue

  • Optional: scissors

  • Small materials to represent the water molecule (i.e. beads, cereal, pieces of paper, etc.) I told the students to bring in the materials, but if they cant, I gave them a blank piece of paper from which they can cut out pieces to represent the molecules.
