Dive into the rich heritage of West Virginia with this comprehensive Research Packet and Project Rubric! This activity is designed to ignite curiosity about West Virginia’s fascinating history, diverse geography, and unique culture. Ideal for classroom use or homeschool, this resource provides everything you need for an engaging and educational state project. This printable packet is perfect for individual or group assignments. Whether for homeschool, classroom teaching, or enrichment, this all-in-one resource inspires students to explore the Mountain State in a fun and memorable way.
West Virginia played a key role in U.S. history when it separated from Virginia during the Civil War to remain loyal to the Union, becoming a state in 1863. Its rich coal resources later fueled America’s industrial growth and powered the nation through much of the 20th century. With the beautiful mountainous geography, West Virginia is a 'wild and wonderful' place to live and visit.
With this activity, students will learn this and more about the state of West Virginia, including its state symbols, state quarter, geography, government and more. They will answer 40 questions about the state, including coloring in the state flag and labeling a provided map of the state. These questions span a total of five pages.
Then, students will use what they learned in their research to create a poster about the state. There is a provided rubric that you may pass out to students for this poster, which outlines what to include and how to make the poster. (This make the student packet a total of six pages).
This product also includes answers to every question in the student packet, teacher tips, instructional and prep directions and materials list.
By the end of this project, students will have a good knowledge about the history, culture and geography of the state of West Virginia.
